Susan SingsI joined the Governing Body of Powers Hall Junior School in 2004. At that time I was employed as Senior Manager at Anglia Ruskin University and came with many years experience in education management. I became the Chair of the Governing Body in 2008, a challenging role that I enjoy. The Governing Body seeks to support and challenge the school, its staff and pupils to continue to be outstanding and it has an important role in ensuring that its finances remain on a sound footing. In 2013 we became the Lead School in a Multi Academy Trust and I assumed the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees.
I have been a Governor for over 30 years and am currently on the governing bodies of Powers Hall Academy in Witham. I am also Governor of a local infant school. I have served as an IEB member and a Member of Connected Learning MAT Ltd, Witham. I am on the Executive Committee of the Essex School Governors’ Association and represent them on North Essex Children’s Partnership Board and the Preparing for Adulthood Forum. I represent Primary School Governors on the Schools’ Forum which I currently Chair and I am their delegate on the SEN Strategy Sub-Group and the Early Years and Childcare Partnership Forum.
Jane Bass (Head Teacher)
Kirsty Brown (Teacher Representative)
Claire Brazier (Non-Teaching Representative)
Originally from Terling, I have lived in Witham for 42 years & attended Bramston Comprehensive School. On leaving school, I worked for Barclays Bank for 30 years, taking early retirement in 2004. Two of my grandchildren attended Powers Hall and that is how my association with the school began. I became a Governor in 2010 and enjoy the role very much, as it enables me to continue supporting the school. My hobbies include gardening, reading & knitting.
I have been a Governor for 5 years and serve on the Premises Committee. Two of my grandchildren attended Powers Hall. I have lived in Witham for 42 years and after leaving St. Luke’s College Exeter taught geography for 8 years at Bramston School. I obtained an O.U. Degree in 1975 and then became Head of Geography at a school in Colchester for 22 years before taking early retirement. Since stopping actually playing cricket for Witham, rugby refereeing and refereeing assessing I have now become an avid follower of cricket and rugby on T.V.
A grandmother Janet Money, has been a Braintree councillor for more than eight years. She was the Town Mayor of Witham for the Civic Year 2014-2015.
I live in Faulkbourne which means I am in walking distance of Powers Hall Academy. As a District Councillor I serve as a Community Governor and in 2009 I was Chairman of Braintree District Council. I am married with two sons and two grandchildren. I have been a Governor for some time, almost twenty years, and have seen many changes during the years and many great achievements. It is a privilege to be involved with a school which has such a dedicated staff, enthusiastic pupils and hard working Governors whose responsibilities have increased, particularly now the school is an Academy and holds Outstanding status. My Governor responsibilities include R.E. and Safeguarding which I monitor. I always feel so welcome from staff and pupils when I visit.
My name is Sue Rogers and I have taught in and around Witham for 25 years. I left teaching in 2012 to join the family Electronics business and now fulfil the role of International Sales Director. I was delighted to join the Powers Hall Academy Governing Body in 2014 and aim to bring my experience of teaching and business in to the role.
