Class Teachers: Mrs Taylor and Mrs Barton
LSAs: Miss Nixon and Mrs Simmons
I am so pleased to be teaching in Year 4 again this year. I have taught from reception through to Year 6 and spent many years teaching in an SLD school. Powers Hall Academy has amazing staff and the children are so positive towards their learning, polite and well-behaved.
Together with the other Year 4 staff, we have created an exciting and fun-filled year. The children have especially enjoyed Art (so have I) and Science so far, as well as PSHE. I'm looking forward to this term and all that this season brings - harvest, Guy Fawkes and of course Christmas!
This is my second year at PHA and I'm very excited to be in Year 4 this year. It has been a fantastic start in Kenya Class and I am looking forward to the year ahead. As the children have already heard, I have been to Kenya and was lucky enough to visit a primary school while I was there. I have already discovered the children and I share a love for animals, which will be great when it comes to science! I am especially looking forward to developing a 'love of reading' culture which, with the wide variety of interests in the class, will be so much fun!
Things to remember
bring to school EVERY day:
Filled school water bottle
PE: Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure earrings are removed on these days.
Spelling Test: Friday
Reading and quizzing
Times Table Rock Stars
This half term we are reading the text 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl and 'The Demon Dentist' by David Walliams. We are using this as a stimulus for writing. We are learning about creating interesting sentences that are correctly formed and at the same time incorporating grammar techniques to add cohesion.
In year 4, we read every day. We have guided reading four times a week. During these sessions the children read to an adult, work on dictionary skills, complete comprehension activities and read independently.
In Maths we will begin with place value, addition and subtraction before continuing to develop our multiplication and division skills. Times Tables Rockstars is a great way to get in lots of practise. Every child has their own login details which can be found in their planner.
Connected Curriculum - Our focus for the Autumn term is PSHE. Children will gauge an understanding of living in the wider world, focusing on belonging to a community and the importance of money and work. Children will also learn about maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle and the importance of oral hygiene and dental care.
Science - In the first half term we will be focusing on Animals including Humans followed by States of Matter in the second half term.
PE - Children will have twice weekly PE sessions, taking part in a variety of sports such as football and gymnastics.
RE - In the second half term children will be learning about Christianity, building on their existing knowledge from Year 3.
Computing - Children will learn about how to keep safe online and how to create a variety of documents using Microsoft tools.
DT/Art - Children will be beginning the term enhancing their drawing and painting skills in the style of Quentin Blake.
