Spring Term Curriculum Overview
Summer Term Curriculum Overview
Maths - We will be continuing to follow Power Maths, a UK curriculum mastery programme, covering topics such as decimals, time, money and geometry.
In addition, we will be dedicating lots of time to practising the Times Tables preparing for the Multiplication check coming up later on in the year.
English - This half term we will be reading 'My Name is River' by Emma Rea. This book links brilliantly to our running theme of 'Rainforests and Forests' this term. We will be looking at how to effectively describe a setting and learn to use figurative language, such as similes and personification, to amplify our writing.
Connected Curriculum - Our focus for the Summer term is Geography. We will use aerial photographs and fieldwork to draw maps that include symbols and keys to represent the human and physical features in these areas. In addition, children will gain an understanding about how features of rainforests affect how humans use these areas and the impact on them.
Science - In the first half term, our topic is 'All Living Things' where we will study plants and animals in their habitat.
PE - Children will have twice weekly PE sessions, taking part in a variety of sports such as rugby and athletics.
RE - Children will begin the Summer Term continuing to learn about the religion of Islam. This will then be followed by the children learning about Sikhism.
Computing - Children will learn about how to keep safe online and how to create a variety of documents using Microsoft tools.
DT/Art - In DT this term, children will practise using levers and linkages to investigate how things move.
Summer Term Timetable
English
This half term we will be reading 'Anglo-Saxon Boy' by Tony Bradman. This book will accompany our narrative writing focus. We will be learning to create varied sentences, incorporating grammar techniques to add cohesion.
ReadingIn year 4, we read every day. We have guided reading four times a week. During these sessions the children read to an adult, work on dictionary skills, complete comprehension activities and read independently.
Reading Vipers - Reading is not just about word recognition. Working on our 'Vipers' skills will help us to really enjoy what we are reading.
Maths
We will be continuing to follow Power Maths, a UK curriculum mastery
programme, focusing on multiplication and division, where the children will be learning new written methods.
In addition, we will be focusing heavily on our Times Tables preparing for the Multiplication check coming up later on in the year.
Power Maths Characters

Connected Curriculum - Our focus for the Spring term is History. Children will be learning all about the Anglo-Saxons including the ideas, beliefs and experiences of men, women and children during this period. Furthermore, children will also be learning about the struggle between the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons for the Kingdom of England.
Science - In the first half term we will be focusing on Sound followed by Electricity in the second half term.
PE - Children will have twice weekly PE sessions, taking part in a variety of sports such as football and gymnastics.
RE - Children will begin the Spring Term learning about the religion of Hinduism. The second half, we are focusing on Islam.
Computing - Children will learn about how to keep safe online and how to create a variety of documents using Microsoft tools.
DT/Art - In Art this term, children will be using paint to mix and match colours, explore tint, tone and shade and use colour to reflect mood. They will be looking at the work of painter David Hockney to observe colours in artwork. Building on these skills, and learning new DT skills, the children will be making their own Viking Ships.
