Welcome to Peru - Bienvenido a Peru
Class Teacher: Mrs Standbridge
Class email: Peru@connectedlearningmat.co.uk
The children in Peru (5P) are enthusiastic and engaged in their learning. They are becoming imaginative and creative learners and put these skills to use when learning all about Peru and producing some fantastic work. This year, the children have agreed to always try their best, work as a team and implement their oracy skills.
Equipment to Remember: Filled water bottle, Pupil Planner, Times Table book and reading book. PE kits and Outdoor learning kits will stay in school until half term (unless they need to go home to be freshened up). PE is on Thursday mornings and Monday afternoons.
Pupil Planners: These are specific to each individual as they have their log ons as well as the spellings that they need to learn. If you need to communicate with me, please use their pupil planner as a means of communication or you can email me using the class email address. When your child reads at home, please sign their planner.
Our Key Skills Day is on Thursday morning and this morning consists of Computing, PE and Outdoor Learning.
Homework: Please can children read at home and have their Pupil Planners signed by a responsible adult. In addition, MyON is an on-line library where children are able to read and then quiz straight away. Weekly spellings are set every Friday and tested weekly. These are written into their spelling books which can be taken home to practise but children can also learn these on Spelling Shed. Daily practise of their times tables in their Time Table Book will encourage and support their learning. One section can be completed daily and if they fancy a challenge, they can extend to division. In addition, Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) is a fun way to learn, joining in with the tournaments that are set. The jamming section is aimed more at a specific times table. More recently, children are now able to apply their English and Numeracy skills on IDL. Please encourage your child to carry out their homework and have their Pupil Planners signed.

We will be applying our English skills to write cross curricular with our topic in Geography: rivers. The children will be enjoying our class book 'Floodland' by Marcus Sedgewick. We will be using what we have read and our knowledge of rivers to write a setting description about Eels Island. The children will also be producing a persuasive speech to entice people into their tribe!
For children to dive deeper into their reading, we use VIPERS. Using this will help your child develop their comprehension skills. The letters are illustrated in the poster which is in their planners.

Please could you ensure your child has appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing in school at all times for this please.
This half term, children are learning about properties. The children will be carrying out their own experiments and investigations to test different materials. This will also link to our DT project of creating a structure to withstand harsh conditions.
