Great Portland Street - Year 3
Summer Term Curriculum Overview

PE
Well done everyone for a superb effort at Friday's sports day. Please make sure that you have brought your full kit into school on Monday: black shorts, black footwear, white t-shirt. Your PE kit will be sent home on Friday for washing.
Outdoor Learning
We will continue with our Outdoor Learning and discover what green spaces can give us.
Even when it's wet, we are thinking about the outdoors.

Due to very wet weather we painted pictures in the style of Abel Rodriguez who lived in the Colombian part of the Amazon rainforest. He listened to stories told to him by his grandfather and then painted pictures of how the rainforest used to be. We tried to paint, from memory, our school playing field. Have a look at the latest newsletter for images of our paintings.
Key Skills
Great Portland Street will have Key Skills on Friday morning. Key Skills consist of three lessons: PE, Outdoor Learning and computing.
Homework
Homework is set every Monday and focuses on times tables, spellings and reading. Don't forget to log onto myON - you can listen as well as read. Remember that when you go onto myON you select the right 'number' so you are reading appropriately challenging books.
Regular practise on TTRS and Spelling Shed will help reinforce the learning we are doing in the classroom. All practise is good - even if it's only for 5 or 10 minutes a day. Remember your aim is to get to below 3 seconds per question.

We learned about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We constructed mini huts using natural materials.

For Get Witham Reading, Year 3 focused on The Day The Crayons Quit. We had an amazing range of colours - thank you all for making the effort. We completed different activities throughout the day, including drama, hat making, crayon making and creating a picture using our crayons differently.

We played driedel as part of our learning of Jewish festivals. It was great fun!

We made a Stone Age pot using traditional methods using stones, leaves and twigs. Tomorrow we will write a set of instructions using the skills we have been practising this week.

We learned about the Jewish festival of Shabbat and made Challah bread.

We took part in the Young Voices World Record Attempt at the most people singing the same song at the same time. We sang Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" with people from around the world, together with Billy Ocean at the O2 Arena.
