6 India
Welcome to India Class (6I)
Please remember your equipment each day: filled water bottle, pupil planner and reading book. Each day starts with conversation over breakfast and activities to support and promote well being.
Our PE days are Monday and Friday. Children should arrive at school in their PE kits comprising black shorts, white t-shirts and black trainers. For this term they will also need shin pads. No items should have any branded logos please. Please remember that earrings cannot be worn for PE and should be removed at home if your child is unable to do this themselves. All long hair should be tied back for PE. A dark/black tracksuit is also permitted. Thank you.
Homework - will be given out on a Monday to be returned the following Monday. There is an opportunity to complete homework at school on a Wednesday lunchtime at 12.30pm-1.00pm. Homework comprises: Times Table Rockstars (at least 3 minutes per day across the week); spelling on Ed Shed; reading aloud at least three times a week (please record in your planner); a retrieval or project task (this will vary week on week).
During our history lesson today children were able to handle a shell. Thank you to Willow for sharing this with us.
We used concrete resources today to help support the learning of our times tables.
Today was our first lesson on light theory. Children investigated how to "prove" that light travels in straight lines with a couple of quick investigations.
History - This project teaches children about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.
Art - This project teaches children about the genre of environmental art. They study how artists create artwork that addresses social and political issues related to the natural and urban environment. Children work collaboratively to create artwork with an environmental message.
Science - This project teaches children about the way that light behaves, travelling in straight lines from a source or reflector, into the eye. They explore how we see light and colours, and phenomena associated with light, including shadows, reflections and refraction.
DT - This project teaches children about remarkable engineers and significant bridges, learning to identify features, such as beams, arches and trusses. They complete a bridge-building engineering challenge to create a bridge prototype.
Geography - Children analyse data and carry out fieldwork to find out about local road safety. They study patterns of human settlements and carry out an enquiry to describe local settlement patterns.
Today was the first part of the innovate art challenge. Children expanded on their earlier designs of bees, butterflies or beetles. Then choosing their insect, created a 3D sculpture in clay. Next week, they will paint them using vibrant colours inspired by the Pop Art movement.
Today was the final stage of the science innovate project. Having planned the "home device" last week, this week the children used micro:bits, laptops, and electrical circuit equipment to test their innovation. Having reflected upon the outcome, they then "tweaked" the design.
Today we created mixed media collages in the Pop Art style inspired by the work of Andy Warhol
Learning the differences and similarities between bar codes and QR codes. Then using QR codes to take part in a GPS quiz.
Thank you so much for completing the holiday homework - it was delightful to see so many of you engaging with the various activities. I hope you enjoyed them.
India class took part in the upper school CPR lessons this morning, where they learnt life skills of CPR, clearing airways following choking and the recovery position. We thank the volunteers from Little Lifesavers for their time and patience.
Our clapping version of the Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra
Our experience day saw children come dressed as evacuees. We watched a video clip of people recounting their tales of their own evacuations. Some were good and really enjoyed it; others less so. We then researched how they felt and some of the activities they undertook. Finally a drama activity where children left their parents at the train station, culminating in a song "We're Going To The Country". Thank you for making a huge effort with your costumes, you all looked fabulous.
Today we created Inuit printing of animals
To help us imagine how the character of Kensuke's Kingdom felt at being alive on the island we used sensory boxes before writing our paragraphs.
Inspired by Inuit carvings, we carved (using bars of soap) animal species from the Arctic
Today we investigated the similarities and differences between the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Firstly, we created a mini globe denoting the five main areas of latitude. Then we created an A3 poster before turning this into video diaries/podcasts.
